Started off liking this, but then got to the 2-photon (EPR) part - Bernardo completely misses the point, which is that correlation is independent of measurement polarization choice made at any stage - that is the miracle which is unique for quantum mechanics and why the scientists mentioned got the Nobel prize (Also see Roger Penrose summarizing how the Nobel committee even managed to mess this up in the citation ). What Bernardo is talking about is true for any plain old classical correlation.

Great introduction to a tricky subject by a genuine thinker, in an arena crowded with charlatans. Still, the greatest barrier to progress is our expectation for objective testable models and prediction, which is the legacy of the enlightenment. Its just a reflection of the real world of survival - "show me the money!' Its like we collectively need a new way of thinking that can be objectively agreed. Its not clear this will ever happen, but it might, just as there a breakthroughs like relativity and quantum mechanics.

1:06:07 when you unpurposely use rhetoric , you may feel this is so attractive idea but it's not truth. You haven't described what is consciousness and you continuously kept making assumptions over assumptions

I'm fascinated by how Hoffman's theory aligns with spiritual teachings about consciousness and the soul. We've been misled by a materialistic worldview that separates body and soul, leading to control, conflict, and social issues. Reality is fundamentally mental, driven by collective consciousness, as many religions have taught. Science is now converging with spirituality, revealing a deeper understanding of existence and the divine. This new awareness emphasizes empathy, interconnectedness, and the recognition of a higher power shaping our reality. Even though some religions have been hijacked by groups or ideologies that turned them into control machines, forging the initial holy scripts to serve their own power and ego purposes, the core spiritual truths remain. I also respect Anil Seth's approach in materialistic science to explain our space-time perception, with the understanding that this material could not be fundamental. Exciting times as we bridge science and spirituality, uncovering the true nature of consciousness.

4:41 - Don't Donald Hoffman and Chetan Prakash have a pretty physicalist explanation of the universe in their form of idealism? It's effectively describing idealism showing up as something like functionalism with multiple realizability in nature (in that theory it seems like egregores and 'China Brains' would be edified).

What I have come to realise from listening to this lecture, as a fellow scientist is that: 1. Humans, especially scientists LACK WISDOM. 2. HUMANS ARE INCREDIBLY CRUEL. How does one live traumatising a poor rat and mouse all day long in the name of Science. 3. How does everyone listening to this NOT have compassion and empathy towards ALL living beings. Disgusting but thanks for this lecture. Confident that this comment will be deleted by moderators.

So what does he suggest I do instead? Zero access to help because nothing on offer or likely even existed! Old medications have worked for me, when I could not attempt to socialise at all. Its not shyness when your avoidance becomes so repetative, and the habit strengthened that I end up being agoraphobic. An old word meaning fear of the marketplace. And how do I pay for such overpaid therapists? Who wants to spend 6yrs talking over and over with no progress about how you can't function? Drugs have their place. Aeroplane pilots have been using amphetamines for decades, and look how many have had the time of their lifes because of that. No other way a pilot could somewhat safely stay awake and focused for 18+hours, which is how long one used to fly. Are you happy for them to drop off to sleep carrying 200 people? Narcolepsy isn't real? Try telling them that. And how long do I spend in bed waiting for the depression to go? Oh, by the way, I've no friends or family, so how will I manage to eat and stay hydrated, take my insulin injections and avoid ending up with ketoacidoses or worse, should nobody find me unconscious. In the end I will for certain have clinical depression due to multiple micronutrient deficiencies. Tell us what to do instead, doctor? When hotshots come out to expose something, and speak for millions of people who will now question their medications, and some will inevitably throw them away believing you've just told them they don't need drugs. You're going to take full responsibility for any consequences? Typical single minded hypothesis. So if I went for a consultation with this guy, he's going to say there's nothing wrong that mother nature can't fix? But doctor, I don't drive... So what else do we do smartass? Forgot about that? Ah. I'm not hanging aroung for the second half to find out.

Everyone can catalyze a paradigm shift in their city by getting 100 people to join an altruistic network like sharebay. The key to fostering prosocial behavior is to raise awareness that all people will be a benefit to society if all their physical and emotional needs are met, and that all people will become a burden or danger to society if any of their emotional or physical needs are not met.

Most recently teaching because i wanted a creative job that also helped people. Like when i want to give a gift, i think of the person and design something just for them, rather than when i sold art on commission which felt so draining. Consciousness does not mean a personality created by need, by mortality or hunger. The universe can't care because it aint frail. Ditto a rock from your yard. Aware doesn't require need. All which is impressionable is thus aware. Synergy is fact when normal simple farming is successful; mutual awareness. Too bad most words are passe paradigms, we keep stumbling over imbedded implications and dead-ends. The sod bacteria is the oldest reservoir of life cosciousness. Its awareness 'field' is in linkage with every gut...as an awareness, not intents.

I believe that all complex adaptive systems - insect colonies, a biome, the ocean-atmosphere system, Earth Herself, all have consciousness. Unfortunately there is not and probably will never be an agreed-upon definition of consciousness. From my perspective, 'you know consciousness when you see it', and pre-Enlightenment Europeans, like most indigenous today, know consciousness 'when they see it'.

Interesting ideas but no testable theory from Hoffman. Just speculation, which is fine, but at some point you have to start proving things. If everything is an illusion that means, when it comes to gravity, every single living thing is under the exact same illusion. Gravity operates according to a precise equation for everyone, everywhere and all the time. If you don't accept that then walk off a building. So then why not just call that reality? Call it an illusion if you want, but you can also just refer to it as reality.

Can you turn your sleep paralysis in to a lucid dream? I have had about 10 lucid dreams and people who haven't experienced one will never understand how magical it is like I said I've had about 10 lucid dreams but I get sleep paralysis several times a week and the two things can't be more different in the enjoyable department sleep paralysis are the scariest episode's pure terror for me so if there is a any way to use it to bring on a lucid dream would be great. People don't realise how magical lucid dreaming is but it's very difficult to enter one my first few lasted seconds for some reason the first thing I did every time I entered one I would instantly fly straight up and my heart would speed up and wake me up but by the fourth time I remembered so flew really slow thinking about Myself sleeping in bed so don't raise my heart rate to quickly and I've now flown all the way in to space and looked back at earth, the feeling when you become aware in your dream is a feeling that you won't get from anything else it's fantastic.
